Nursery School

Where the Child Comes First

An unassuming facade in a council block hides this community treasure. Rachel Keeling Nursery school was first opened in 1962 with an emphasis on providing high-quality nursery education. The aim was to raise standards for all children, including those who may be potentially disadvantaged. Rachel Keeling Nursery School has ever since been a home away from home for generations of little ones in Bethnal Green and Bow. Rated Outstanding by Ofsted today, this early years setting has a legacy of decades of work with children of all ethnicities, abilities and socio economic backgrounds.

Child focussed to a fault, Rachel Keeling values and empowers little voices.  Children can be found tending to the organic garden, learning to ride a bike, using tools or roasting marshmallows at the fire pit. They are encouraged to take risks and given autonomy within safe parameters to help them grow more confident in their abilities. Each staff member is passionate about fostering a love of learning, inspiring creativity and ensuring children become resilient, reflective and respectful. Skilful staff support children to research their interests and deepen their knowledge, nurturing them to take their place in the wider world.

Nursery School Places for 3 & 4 Year Olds
Rachel Keeling Nursery School currently offers part-time places to children. Parents are encouraged to take up a morning or afternoon place, Monday to Friday.
There are some full time places under the 30 hour programme for working parents but this is subject to capacity.
Where did the name Rachel Keeling come from?

The school was named in honour of one of the suffragettes; Rachel Susanna Keeling who later became a Labour Party councillor for Bethnal Green North East in 1934.
