The East London Pilates school runs a range of courses around the borough including classes at weekends and evenings – ideal for parents. Courses are designed and offered in 12 week blocks.

What is Pilates?

Created by Joseph Pilates in Germany over 125 years ago, the Pilates Method was developed as a system of 32 exercises designed to strengthen the mind and body as he felt the health of both were inter-related.

‘Pilates develops the body uniformly, correct s wrong posture, restores physical vitality, invigorates the mind and elevates the spirit.‘ – Joseph Pilates.

Pilates is a dynamic form of non-aerobic mind-body exercise suitable for all ages. Each movement is performed consciously with slow control and particular breathing patterns paying attention to every muscle group in the body with special attention to those that stabilise the joints.

How Do I Join?

Browse the ELP website timetable and find the class most suited to you. ELP offers beginners and advanced classes, hybrid yoga /pilates classes and also antenatal pilates for women in early stages of pregnancy which will help to get you ‘baby ready’ and takes into account changes in your posture and has extra focus on the pelvic floor.

Before signing up to a 12 week course ELP offers Pre-Class Orientation (£14). This includes:

– The principles behind their approach
– The history of Pilates
– The benefits of the Pilates Method
– An introduction to some of the basic movements
