We’re only halfway through October and there’s still so much fun for East London Families!

This October is a bountiful harvest so full of fun we’re going to need two roundups! We’ve updated this one with some fun things to do over half term and we’ve made a new one full of spooky fun with a Halloween theme. One night, Arthur has an amazing dream about a beautiful pink and green boat with a stripy mast. He can’t wait to tell everyone about it but no one (not even his dog!) is interested. In fact, they don’t even notice that this very same boat is growing on his head, getting larger and larger by the minute! Soon, Arthur is bouncing along the waves in his very own dream boat. Maybe now his family will listen to him! Arthur’s Dream Boat is a magical and playful children’s show with breathtaking puppets, so enchanting that everyone will want to sail away with Arthur’s in his dream boat! Perfect for children ages 2-8 years.

Half Term at Museum of London Docklands

It’s all happening at the Museum of London Docklands this halfterm! Journey through underground rivers to hear the tales of the Queen of Rats and King of Snakes before using your voice and body to create a soundscape. Create a costume and perform a river dance with Go with The Flow a sensory, craft and movement session. Meet the Author of the City of Secret Rivers and dive into the wonderful world of his fantasy novels set in London’s magical sewers.

Half Term at the Museum of Childhood

When: Monday 21st-Friday 25th October 2019, various times and days

The Museum of Childhood is taking nature for inspiration in a series of workshops for kids from this halfterm. Illustrator Chloe Dennis will guide the children as they experiment with collage, mark making and drawing using plants flowers and vegetables to make a self-portrait. Artist Dolores Fasulo will get kids using fabric paint and stencil to make their own wearable patch with a positive message. Both activities are perfect for children ages 7+. Younger children will love painting on pumpkins inspired by the Big Draw Festival’s theme, Drawn to Life, create a painting on a pumpkin, with help from artist Amy Brown, to take home. All of the workshops are £7.

Extinction Rebellion Workshops

On Thursday and Saturday between 1-4pm there will be FREE Live Printing workshops for all ages with Extinction Rebellion.

Join the XR Art Blockers for a live woodblock printing session, using human printing press! Bring your own t-shirts, canvas bag, umbrella, flag or other items you would like to print on.

Join award-winning Hartbeeps’ multi-sensory productions for a magical tour down the River Thames. You will be taken on a journey down the rabbit-hole of imaginative make-belief! Meet us down the river to play with the ducklings, get aboard a speedboat and meet our famous Janice the Fish! You will finally be taken on a fabulous submarine tour with lots of underwater activities. Aided with bespoke music, multi-sensory props, lights, puppets, singing and dancing, you will not want to miss this epic adventure! Please note, tickets will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis on arrival at the museum, with a maximum of 25 children per session. Session timings are as follows: 10am: walkers to pre-schoolers (12m- 5 yr olds), 11am: strong sitters and crawlers (7m – 12m old) and 12pm: newborn to sitting babies (0m – 6m old)

Family Jazz Sessions

The ever-popular jazz sessions with a child friendly twist, where adults and little ones can bop away to live world-class jazz together and take part in interactive musical activities.

The line-up for this session includes singer and musician Faye Patton, whose original songs combine jazz, funk, pop, folk, gospel and blues influences with a contemporary Nu Jazz sound.

South African born trumpeter Claude Deppa will be there with sounds that are influenced by African, world, Afro-Cuban, jazz, improvised, soul, funk and European chamber music.

They’ll be joined by drummer Ian Newton Grant, who’s influenced by musicians like Stevie Wonder, Earth, Wind and Fire, John Coltrane and Dennis Chambers. Ian is also a talented tutor who travels around the UK leading workshops for all ages

Family Fun Day

The event will take place at The Last Drop, by the ArcelorMittal Orbit.

Round up the kids and head to the Park this October half-term to enjoy a whole host of fun, and free activities including Free prize raffle, Face-painting and temporary glitter tattoos, African drumming – free ‘come and try’ workshops, Garden party games, Family-friendly yoga sessions, Bubbleologists, Jamboree – East End Jam tasting

Guests are welcome to bring along any canned goods which will be donated to the local Newham food bank.

Go and celebrate the season! Autumn is a beautiful time to be alive and there are few better places than the Geffrye Front Gardens to enjoy it!  Families of all ages will enjoy the Free fun put together by the Geffrye Young producers in the museum’s front garden. Get moving, twirling and spinning with a seasonal ceilidh. Peruse the craft market, delicious food, and autumnal workshops
