Get Ready for Fun in the Sun this May Half Term

Globe Town Spring Community Fair

Come and say hello to us at this free Family Event! Globe Town Assembly are working with local schools, community groups, partner organisations and residents to bring spring joy to our Market Square! Free Children’s activities will include a petting zoo with a Shetland pony, face painting, book swap and story tent from Rich Mix and Eco Crafting with Plastic Free Roman rd.I’ll be joined by Tower Hamlets SOUP, Poets’ Community Garden, St John on Bethnal Green, Roman Road trust, Roman Road Planters Project, Cranbrook Community Garden and many more!

Queen Elizabeth Park Fun Fair

Enjoy all the fun of the fair this half term at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. Located in the North Park with Dodgems, Rollercoasters and carousel, George Irvin’s Ultimate funfair will have something for everyone to enjoy as it takes over Stratford Waterfront for two weeks. There is an entrance fee of £1 per person but under 3’s go for free. The rides operate on a token system, which are available to purchase at the funfair for £1.20 per token or 10 for £10. Wristband day will also be available on Thursday 30th May, for unlimited rides between allocated times.

When: Friday 24 May – Sunday 2 June, the funfair will open from 1pm—10:30pm.

All Points East 
This Half Term head to Vicky Park for non stop fun! Get creative and learn your craft with Hackney Arts – whether it’s an upcycled festival flag or a tie dye tote bag masterpiece, join one of the many free workshops to make a special piece for you to treasure and keep. Explore the captivating history of grime music and East London with Rich Mix’s Generation Grime:Back2Bow, as part of their annual festival of creativity, PLAY-HOUSE. There’s even more thrilling free storytelling with Museum of London Docklands and you can even take a trip to the circus with the aerial circus performances and free workshops with Upswing. If that’s not enough, you can serve up an ace on the free tennis courts with Tower Hamlets Tennis, get down with Chisenhale Dance, or immerse yourself in the live podcast experience with Queen Mary University of London. The East End Film Festival is also heading to In The Neighbourhood. Discover the hot new films and homegrown talent with the unique showings and even immerse yourself in the action with their interactive workshops. There’s plenty for children and adults of all ages with the magical and witty storytelling by Half Moon Theatre, plus fire up your imagination with puppet shows by Bus King Theatre. Outdoor cinema showings will include Back to the Future, The Black Panther and Mary Poppins Returns.

Forest School at Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park

There are still places left for the very popular Forest School this half term for ages 6-11 and younger children who come accompanied by an adult. Forest School is made up of a very wide range of experiences and adventures, which can include bushcraft skills, whittling, fire lighting and cooking on fires, through to bug hunts and bird watching. Children can also take part in tailored activities designed to help them connect to their environment through arts and crafts, games and science based investigation activities. The unique, natural environment of THCP is at the very heart of all the sessions and children will discover the wonderful habitats found through a choice of inspiring hands-on activities and games.

Dalston Children’s Festival

We love it when the community gets together for the sake of the children! Community groups and places like Dalston Curve Garden, Arcola theatre, Hackney Playbus and more get together for this annual celebration of childhood with family events for all ages. Get creative, learn how to hula hoop, play giant games of jenga and chess and make pizza. Just some of the activities on offer over the 2 weekends.

The Feel Good Festival

Enjoy moving, making, eating and relaxing in the Geffrye’s beautiful gardens at our summer festival which is all about wellbeing and feeling good.

Build up an appetite in the group exercise area before exciting your senses with delicious cultural foods. Explore your creativity with Origami or Turkish marbling, join in outdoor games, relax in one of the chill-out deckchairs or treat yourself to a restorative foot massage. The event celebrates Turkish, Cypriot and Vietnamese culture, working in partnership with the local community.

Vicky Park Bowls, Fishing and Canoeing Taster Days

Learn something new this half term you wouldn’t learn in school and soak up the vitamin D while you are at it. Take the family to the Bowling Green and try your hand at bowls with expert tuition by experienced players. Wednesday’s the day to get hooked on fishing! Vicky Park’s Fishing Taster Day is great for budding anglers aged 6 +! Join the community park rangers to see what fish you can catch in the East Lake. Coaching sessions available throughout the day. Or Row Row Row your Boat with their Canoeing taster day on Thursday the 30th. Try out canoeing on the model boating lake with professional coaching sessions available throughout the day for ages 9–16 only.
