Victoria Park Day: A Great Day Out

A fun filled festival with live music, fairground rides, arts and crafts and lots more for families comes to Victoria Park Saturday 3rd August. There will be something for everyone as the community comes together to celebrate our beloved park.

The London Slime Festival

It’s Slime Time this Saturday at York Hall! Experience Slime like never before as The London Slime Festival brings the biggest names in Slime and ASMR, with popular Slime creators attending from around the Globe. Learn how to make slime in ’How to make Slime’ workshops with the the UK’s leading slime party company, Slime Party UK! Slime stars will be revealing their secrets on the Slime stage, hosting live demos and Slime competitions. Events for kids don’t get any slimier!

Bethnal Green Fire Station Open Day

Come along and meet the real life heroes, our local firefighters, at Bethnal Green Fire Station this weekend. There will be a fire engine for children to have a good look at as well as talks with the firefighters about their day to day. Families will learn some potential life-saving tips for fire safety as well.

Tots Gigs Summer Special presents : Moira Smiley

Perfect for parents who miss going to gigs in the evening, each month Tots Gigs brings to the stage an eclectic mix of established & emerging musicians from the London world, folk and contemporary music scene. Moira Smiley will bring her envigorating sounds to the beautiful National Trust building: Sutton House for a Tots Gigs Summer Special, Tuesday the 6th of August.

From percussive alt-folk via classical minimalism to high-energy experimental creativity Tots Gigs are a sensory experience for both little ears and big ears. The vibe is relaxed, inspiring and intimate for appreciative audiences of parents along with sleeping, feeding, wandering, dancing tots. Adults £8 Children over £5, prebooking advisable.

The Princess and the Frog

The ballet is coming to Jubilee Gardens in Canary Wharf on the 10th August. Celebrating the wonderful world of fairy tales, Let’s ALL Dance! will be performing an adaptation of The Princess and The Frog. A fantastical ballet for the whole family, this playful retelling of the classic will captivate young audiences. Part of a Summer Family Festival with something for all ages to help you entertain your little ones this summer.

Fabulous Folk and Fairy Tales

Perfect for children aged 3 years and above, Fabulous Folk and Fairy tales invites you to Set Sail with magical storyteller Olivia Armstrong. They’ll be absolutely captivated with her fabulous folktales and fairy-tales from around the world. These stories once sailed the seven seas, stowing away in the ships that sailed into the docks. Get ready to join in and help her tell-the tales!

London’s Biggest Play Street

Kids of all ages are invited to come and reclaim the spaces of Smithfield on August 10th for free family adventure play – from giant den-building and chalk drawing, to DIY mask-making and water play!

Brought to you by the Culture Mile project produced by Museum of London and ZCD Architects in partnership with Islington Play Association. Supported using public funding from Arts Council England.

Bring a packed lunch, clothes for getting messy and lots of imagination – everything else will be provided.

Canalside Family Fun Day

Bring your family along on Saturday 10th August for a free Canalside Family Day. This free Canalside family festival will feature free workshops, live music and food and drink from local vendors. Hackney Arts will help you get stuck into pot painting and tie dying. If you’re tie dye resistant perhaps consider a pair of pants or socks? Go on! Indulge your inner hippy. Learn pottery with Turning Earth who will even fire your creations and Code Street Clothes who will teach you how to make something new and exciting from something old and shabby.

Sea Shanty Scallywags Workshop

The fun continues across the river at London Bridge City’s Summer By The River

“Yo Ho Yo Ho A Pirate’s Life for Me” Learn a tune and sing with performers from London’s Free Open Air Theatre Season.

An interactive music and theatre workshop perfect for anyone young heart who’s dreamed of becoming a pirate. Learn traditional Irish Folk and sing songs of the sea, perfect for any voice whether a mermaid’s or walrus’s! Why not make a day of it and enjoy one of their free performances of ‘The Sea Queen’ after the workshop?

This is part of a series of events happening all summer long by London Bridge City, a perfect day out for visiting family with iconic views of the river Thames.

Big Summer Social

Join us for a big summer social with live music, performances, art workshops suitable for everyone, and free delicious ice lollies.

We deliver a huge programme of work for different ages throughout the year at Stratford Circus Arts Centre, and this free summer event is about bringing everyone together with amazing music and creative workshops.

Expect live jazz in partnership with our regular E15 Jazz Sessions, a special performance workshop from singer Gouri Choudhury with Bengali and Hindu songs, funky paper design workshops from our Stratford Arts Social, colourful badge making for little ones, and drop in circus-skills with the National Centre for Circus Arts.

The Family Folk Show

Get ready to sway, dance and feel the rhythm as a musical event takes centre stage with an organic, authentic and fun folk vibe.

Award-winning folk duo Megson blend their infectious mix of heavenly vocals and lush harmonies into an entertaining and interactive theatrical musical performance, featuring playful folk songs old and new. Through clever storytelling between songs, audiences are introduced to the instruments played and the stories sung about.

Wake Up Gigs returns to the rooftop at Ace Hotel, featuring two great performances from rising solo stars – Thomas Headon and Sam Calver. Parents can enjoy the best live bands and artists and enjoy a gig experience that takes in full consideration of varying nap times. Rock n Roll! There is also a soft play area, colouring in classic album covers, balloons, glitter painting and more. They’ve got what you need including a license bar and easily accessible lifts that will take you up to the roof tops of Shoreditch.

Swish with Moulded Theatre

Head to the Discover Children’s Story Centre Saturday 31st August and dive into a tale to awaken young minds. Swish, swoosh, splosh! Welcome to the Ocean! Come and join the fun with Dotty, Blue and Olive on the reef.  Help them watch out for the strange orange Tangle and other mysterious things that keep appearing in the ocean.  Perfect for ages 0-5, featuring puppetry, Makaton and plenty of audience interaction, Swish is a playful multisensory exploration of life underwater and the positive ways in which we can reduce plastic in the ocean. Make sure to book your tickets early as this will be a popular event.

Tower Escape

Visit the Tower of London until August 31st and revisit the dark days of Elizabeth I and James I with this live performance. Rub shoulders with prisoners John Gerard, secret Catholic priest, Arbella Stewart, resourceful royal rival to the monarchs and William Seymour, lovestruck young man or cunning plotter? Keep your eyes and ears open. What friends, equipment and opportunities will there be to help your quest for freedom? Pick up a family trail and meet prisoners, gather clues and devise your own escape plan

Summer Holiday Activities: Acts of Kindness

The Geffrye Museum is inviting families to make the most of their time together in their beautiful front gardens this summer. Parents and children aged 2-12 can explore the theme of kindness through free hands-on art, craft, digital and multi-sensory activities, family tours of the restored 18th century almshouse and trails in the museum’s beautiful gardens.

Inspired by Charles Dickens’ boy-hero Pip and his journey of self-discovery in the novel Great Expectations, children will be encouraged to create small acts of kindness. Free open-air performances by Free Theatre UK will take place in the gardens on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

When: Every Thursday and Friday from the 15th-30th Aug 10am – 4.30pm

Victorian Job Fair

The Ragged School Museum is hosting a Victorian job market this summer. Giving little ones some insight into just how lucky they are to be born in the 21st century. Would you have made it as a successful scientist or ended up in the sewage filled gutters of Victorian London? Like all Ragged School Museum events, families can expect plenty of fun as the Dickensian world is brought to life. Arts and craft activities will be on offer throughout the Museum, The Victorian Classroom, East End Kitchen and Under 5s Ragamuffin Room will also be open as usual, as well as their Towpath Café for a spot of tea!
