Blink. Blink again. What do you see? Reds and blues, yellows and greens. Twinkling lights that glisten and gleam. This April 27th and 28th, you and your little one are invited into the multicoloured world of Kaleidoscope- an interactive show especially designed for babies aged 6-18 months.

Colour Blind

When a baby first opens their eyes, a whole new world of visual development begins but it’s not until they are 3-5 years old that their sight will reach the level of an adult. The first few months are crucial to visual development. Their eyes love nothing more than you getting up close and personal (8-12” to be precise). At first everything is in black and white and newborns are drawn to bold monochrome patterns, contrasts that register powerfully on their retina and send strong visual signals to their brain. This sensory stimulation aids their brain’s growth and faster visual development.

A World of Colour

By around 4 months a baby will begin to see colour. As if by magic, bright blues and yellows and reds will start to pop into their world. But everything is still abstract and a little bit fuzzy and it’s not until a baby reaches 5 months that their eyes begin to coordinate together. The world once shifting in pattern, colour, texture and sound begins to take the more 3-dimensional shape we all recognise.

Developed by Filskit Theatre, Kaleidoscope, is inspired by research into how a baby’s sense of sight develops and how they instinctively begin to categorise colour. A wonderful performance to help you connect with your baby and the immense changes they have been through, and continue to experience, as their world comes into focus.
