Home-Start Open Day Fair

This July 21st you’re invited to a family fun day and fundraiser to help promote the work of charity Home-Start. Join the fun of the fair with bouncy castles, face painting, arts and crafts and more! The children will love the free activities and you’ll get a warm fuzzy feeling supporting a very worthwhile cause. We’ll be running a stall at the event so please pop by and say hello!

We all know how hard parenting can be at times, particularly when your children are young. You’re certainly not alone if you feel exhausted and overwhelmed by the stresses of family life. If you have little support from family and friends it can be even harder.  Families struggling to cope with issues such as domestic abuse, financial restraints, post-natal depression, their own or their child’s illness or disability, isolation or a multiple birth can find themselves near breaking point. Home-Start offers free, confidential support to struggling parents of children under five in Tower Hamlets.

How Home Start Works

A carefully selected volunteer, who has parenting experience themselves, regularly visits a family home. These volunteers offer friendship and emotional and practical support through difficult times. This friendly parent-to-parent support is a simple yet effective way of enabling families to get back on track. Parents have said they feel less isolated and more confident about their parenting skills after receiving the support of Home-Start volunteers. Home-Start has also helped families make better use of local services to make family life more enjoyable.

Home Start staff work to understand the needs of individual families and they keep in touch to ensure the family gets what they need from the service. All Home-Start volunteers are trained, supervised and checked for safeguarding purposes to ensure everyone is safe.

As cuts squeeze publicly funded family services in our borough and child poverty rates climb above 50%, charities like Home-Start play an increasingly important role.

The first 5 years are crucial to meeting each child’s potential. The traumas experienced by children in early years can still be overcome if the need for security and bonding can be met. Home-Start focuses on helping families in their homes as early as possible to prevent difficulties from getting worse. The support they give can make a lasting impact on families.
