Paul picnics

When summer is in full swing, there’s nothing more pleasing than al fresco eating, so we popped into our fave French patisserie Paul to check out their Paul picnics offering this year.

Top marks for kitch and collectible branding, every Paul picnic comes with its own sac à picqu-nique – a black re-usable Paul cool bag and a chequered red and white tablecloth to enjoy your lunch upon. Oh la la!

Paul offers a veritable spread for two – you can choose from pretty much everything they have on offer to have packaged up as part of your picnic.

We opted for a lovely salade salmon fume – fresh smoked salmon, crispy sliced beetroot, seeds and crutons topped with fresh and zingy lemon dressing. In a bid to make the kids eat their greens, I opted for a hearty leek quiche as our other savoury snack. Alas this didn’t work out as planned but I enjoyed the fresh flaky pastry all the same.

On this hot, hot day our fresh lemonade and peach iced tea with their big chunks of ice were divine thirst quenchers to accompany not one but two bags of Paul’s own hand cooked crisps.

However hands down, it was the sweets that received the most excitement with a fight breaking out over our beautifully pink giant Framboise macaron between reviewers Stanley 5 years and Blaise 1.5, leaving this Tower Hamlets mum to recline and enjoy a slice of tart fruit rouge in the sun – a decedent summery mix of cherry, raspberry, red currant and blackberry.

Thanks to Paul for their offering of a complimentary review picnic.
