Christmas Past

This Christmas season the Geffrye will be opening its doors for the last time for 2 years! Dramatic as that sounds the Geffrye that returns will be better than ever before as they undertake a huge project to transform the museum with Unlocking the Geffrye. In the meantime, an invitation for you to time travel through 400 years of Christmas Past awaits and there is no time like the present. Authentic music, lighting and greenery will transform period living rooms so you can journey through the decades.

Much of Christmas tradition has changed from feasting to dancing to parlour games but some traditions remain. Find out when we started stealing kisses under the mistletoe and hanging our stockings. What did the first Christmas cards look like and have Christmas Cracker jokes always been terrible? Christmas Past reveals the stories behind our favourite festive traditions and how they’ve evolved through the centuries.

The Geffrye’s Christmas Past has quite a history itself and families have been visiting the museum as part of their seasonal tradition for 25 years. With Festive food and drink on the menu in the café your day is sure to be very satisfying and indulgent.

THMs members can also enjoy 10% off in The Geffrye’s amazing gift shop full of beautifully made homeware, decorations and Christmas cards. Just show them your THMs card.

There are a few spaces left on their workshops and special events throughout the Christmas season. Some are getting quite busy and some have already sold out so hurry to book before it’s too late.
